2025 Flamingos Tryouts

Flamingos Program Highlights:

Character-first, skill-second approach when evaluating players.
Head coaches are typically non-parent coaches who care about the players and their development!
Families are allowed to pick and choose the tournaments that work for them, allowing them to create a schedule that works for them! We highly encourage our players to be multi-sport athletes, as we believe that there is no one-size-fits-all development model!
Team-first, competitive mindset, players will be pushed to play their best in a positive environment that emphasizes team play!
Focus on finding and competing against like competition in quality, well-run tournaments! Our teams typically compete at the Upper Open AAA skill level, but may vary depending on the roster.
We have had players from 21 different hometowns across three states play for our program!
Pay as you go payment model, rather than paying for all tournaments at the start of the season. Tournament fees are generally $150-$180/tournament, depending on the tournament fee, roster size, and any potential practice ice.
Practices will generally be held in either Grand Forks or Fargo.
Jerseys and pink socks are provided for players, included in the tournament fee. Players provide their own black socks.

The Flamingos are a part of the Fargo Grinders Hockey Club.

2025 AAA Season:

The Flamingos will have teams at the Boys 2009, 2010, 2011, and 2012 Age Levels for the 2025 AAA Season. Depending on interest, we may add a 2013 team as well. Generally speaking, most teams will play 2-3 tournaments in the Spring and 2-3 tournaments in the Fall, with an emphasis on finding like competition, providing unique experiences, participating in quality, well-run tournaments, and playing close to home (Grand Forks/Fargo Area) when possible.

The 2009 team will play 2-3 tournaments, when tournaments are available.

The 2010 team will play 3-5 tournaments, working around High Performance Schedules and School Sports as much as possible.

The 2011 team will play 4-6 tournaments, 2-3 in the Spring and 2-3 in the Fall. All 2011 tournaments will allow checking, to help younger players prepare for the transition to Bantams, while allowing those that will play Bantams this winter an opportunity to further their skills.

The 2012 team will play 4-6 tournaments, 2-3 in the Spring and 2-3 in the Fall. An emphasis will be placed on finding tournaments where checking is allowed, to help prepare players who are making the transition to Bantams in the 2025-2026 season, but some non-checking tournaments will be scheduled as well.

If there is sufficient interest for a 2013 team, they will play 3-5 tournaments, with an emphasis on playing in local (Fargo and Grand Forks) tournaments and with a focus on team play and tactics.

Tryouts:

2025 Tryouts will take place in September 2024. Tryouts will take place on Saturday, September 21st at the VFW Arena in East Grand Forks, MN and on September 29th at the Northside Arena (Formerly H.A. Thompson & Sons Arena) in Fargo, ND. Tryouts will cost $25 for tryout sessions over an hour long, and $20 for hour-long tryout sessions.

Tryouts are the best way to make one of our Flamingos teams, however, they are not a requirement. Emphasis will be placed on selecting players who are present at tryouts, but additional players may be invited by Flamingos staff in addition to those that are present at tryouts. If your player cannot make either tryout date and would like to be considered for a Flamingos team, please contact John Wuitschick via email ([email protected]).

Additional tryout information will be sent out via email during the week of tryouts to registered players. Players will need to provide their own light or dark numbered jersey for tryouts. Jersey color assignments will be sent out via email prior to tryouts. Limited jerseys will be available in the event that your player does not have a numbered jersey of their assigned color.

Tryout results will be sent out via email to all players by Sunday, October 20th at the latest. Efforts will be made to send out tryout results within 1-2 weeks after the Fargo tryout on September 29th.
